Water Cycle Facts

The Water Cycle is the constant recycling of water from Earth's surface, to the atmosphere, and back to Earth's surface again.  During the cycle, water changes from a liquid to a gas and back to a liquid.

We get fresh water from the oceans.  When the salty water evaporates, the salt remains in the ocean and the water vapor is now fresh.

Evaporation - the process by which a liquid changes to a gas.  In the water cycle, the sun heats up the water.

Water Vapor - water is in gas form.  It is invisible but can be felt.

Condensation - happens when the water vapor rises, cools, and changes from a gas to a liquid.

Precipitation- The water droplets collect until they become heavy and fall from the clouds in the form of rain, snow, sleet, and hail.

Transpiration - When water evaporates out of the plant.

Aquifer - underground water storage

Ground Water - water that has soaked in the ground.

Clouds - water droplets
