Students who take part in the second-grade strings program can continue their musical training in the BRCVPA orchestra, which last year won a Superior rating at the Louisiana Music Educators Association state festival. Membership in the Choristers, the school’s outstanding vocal ensemble, is open to third, fourth and fifth graders by audition.
Each new school year brings the opportunity for third graders to participate in any of several instrument programs and performing ensembles. Instruction is available in string orchestra, harp, keyboards, and clarinet.
Fourth and fifth graders may also participate in band, orchestra and any of several audition-based arts groups, including Dance Troupe and Talented Twelve Drama Team. Fifth graders may also try out for the recorder and percussion ensemble or for the WBRC television crew, which employs a daily news format to broadcast morning announcements and other information school-wide from a fully-equipped TV studio. There is also an Honors Art Club for those students having the desire for additional art instruction.
Beginning with the second day of school, fourth graders dive right into planning and production of the annual opera to be performed in November. Every BRCVPA fourth grader participates in the Creating Original Opera program, in which a full-scale operatic production is entirely written, produced, publicized, staged and performed by the students.
